Yeoeun Lim is a Ph.D. student in the Cognitive Science program at Indiana University Bloomington. She received her Bachelor of Music (graduated cum laude, 2015), Master of Music(2018), and Doctor of Musical Arts (graduated first in class, 2024) degrees in Musicology from Seoul National University. During her graduate studies in Korea, Yeoeun was recognized as an Emerging Scholar in Basic Sciences and Humanities by the President of Seoul National University (2018) and as a Next-Generation Musicologist by the Musicological Society of Korea (2016). Her research focuses on the cognitive and neurological underpinnings of sight-reading and individual differences in sight-reading abilities. Her research on the Eye-Hand Span in piano sight-reading has been published in Scientific Reports (2019) and has received the SEMPRE Award at ICMPC (Graz, 2018) and the SMPC Travel Award (New York, 2019). Under the supervision of Professor Andrew Goldman in the Music and Mind Lab, Yeoeun is expanding her research to explore sight-reading as a window into understanding complex cognitive capacities. Through behavioral and EEG studies, she investigates the neural mechanisms underlying sight-reading, aiming to shed light on fundamental aspects of human cognition. (Yeoeun Lim’s Personal Website)

Thomas Mathias is a violinist from Aberystwyth, Wales, currently studying at the Jacobs School of Music with Mauricio Fuks. Named a winner of the Royal Philharmonic Society's 'Julius Isserlis' Scholarship for studies overseas, Thomas is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, and has appeared live as a soloist on BBC Radio Cymru and S4C television. Thomas' main area of research interest lies in musical practice efficiency and peak performance, and is currently undertaking a study with Dr. Andrew Goldman looking at the contextual interference effect in musicians' practice. This is being carried out by examining how the structuring and sequencing of violinists' practice affects acquisition and retention of skill. Thomas enjoys being a member of the Music and Mind Lab and is grateful for the opportunities this affords to learn more about a range of music-related topics, and to hone research study ideas. Richard Zhang is a third-year flute performance major under the tutelage of Professor Thomas Robertello, pursuing a BM in Flute Performance and a minor in Chemistry. Richard is an advocate for performing arts wellness and physical health, previously serving on the Jacobs School of Music Health and Wellness committee and now the Office of Health and Arts Initiatives (OWAHI) Physical Wellness and Injury Intern. He also serves as a researcher in the Performing Arts Medicine Association’s (PAMA) Knowledge Translation committee as well as the Music and Mind Lab. He recently presented at the 2025 PAMA international symposium, winning first prize in the poster competition. Richard’s current research interests include injury prevalence in high school and college musicians, as well as examining potential systematic changes to reduce injury risk for students.
