Megan Kibler is a PhD student in the Cognitive Science program at IU Bloomington, supervised by Dr. Andrew Goldman in the Music and Mind Lab. She holds a BA in Psychology with Honors and Music from the University of Rochester and an MSc in Music, Mind and Brain from Goldsmiths, University of London. Current research topics she is interested in include social connectedness and communication in musical contexts, musical skill acquisition and harmonic expectation. Megan is supported by a McNair Scholars Fellowship as one of the sources of funding for her graduate studies. Aside from her academic endeavors, Megan has worked in the education sector and in programmatic advertising. Megan is also an active performer and singer in classical and crossover work, as well as in live theatre, having performed professionally in NYC and London. (Megan Kibler's Personal Website)
Yeoeun Lim is a Ph.D. student in the Cognitive Science program at Indiana University Bloomington (starting in the fall, 2024). She received her B.M. (with honors, 2015), M.M. (2018), and D.M.A. (with highest honors, 2024) degrees in Musicology from Seoul National University. During her graduate studies in Korea, Yeoeun was recognized as a Next Generation Scholar in Basic Academic Disciplines by the President of Seoul National University (2018) and as a Next-Generation Musicologist by the Musicological Society of Korea (2016). Her research interests include the cognitive and neurological underpinnings of music sight-reading, as well as individual differences in sight-reading abilities. Her research on the Eye-Hand Span in piano sight-reading has been published in Scientific Reports (2019) and has received the SMPC Travel Award from the Society for Music Perception and Cognition (New York, 2019), as well as the SEMPRE Award from the International Conference on Music Perception and Cognition (Graz, 2018). With great enthusiasm for uncovering the brain mechanisms behind music performance, Yeoeun will conduct EEG studies focusing on sight-reading and the neural processing underlying broader aspects of music reading, under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Goldman in the Music and Mind Lab.

Thomas Mathias is a violinist from Aberystwyth, Wales, currently studying at the Jacobs School of Music with Mauricio Fuks. Named a winner of the Royal Philharmonic Society's 'Julius Isserlis' Scholarship for studies overseas, Thomas is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, and has appeared live as a soloist on BBC Radio Cymru and S4C television. Thomas' main area of research interest lies in musical practice efficiency and peak performance, and is currently undertaking a study with Dr. Andrew Goldman looking at the contextual interference effect in musicians' practice. This is being carried out by examining how the structuring and sequencing of violinists' practice affects acquisition and retention of skill. Thomas enjoys being a member of the Music and Mind Lab and is grateful for the opportunities this affords to learn more about a range of music-related topics, and to hone research study ideas. My name is Lillian Dietrich. I am currently a junior undergraduate student pursuing a B.S. in Cognitive Science and a B.M. in percussion. I plan on continuing my education in grad school and then working at a research university. When I’m not studying, I am practicing and preparing for various lessons, ensembles, or drum corps. In the future, I would love to do longitudinal studies on different types of music education for children and how it affects their academic development. Lillian is currently working on a project on timing perception in percussionists vs. wind players with Dr. Andrew Goldman and Dr. Peter Miksza.
Anna Gruzas is a senior from Walled Lake, Michigan, double majoring in Music Performance and Psychology. She studies Horn Performance with Jeff Nelsen here in the Jacobs School of Music, and enjoys performances in the orchestral ensembles at IU, as well as with the Conductor’s Orchestra through the school. Outside of performing, she plans on pursuing a career in the field of performance psychology and conducting research connecting the fields of music and psychology. Outside of school, Anna spends her time with friends exploring the city of Bloomington, second-hand shopping, and collecting plants and vinyl records.
